Tonebox ("the app") is a system-wide audio equalizer and dynamics processor for Android, developed by Hrithik Vishwakarma ("we", "us").
This policy explains what data the app accesses and how it is used. Short version: Tonebox does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal data. Everything happens on your device.
Data We Collect
None. Tonebox has no analytics, no advertising, no third-party SDKs, no crash reporting, and makes no network connections. We do not have servers and we never receive any information from your device.
Permissions and Why They Are Used
| Permission | Why it is needed |
|---|---|
RECORD_AUDIO |
Required by Android's Visualizer API to render the on-screen spectrum (frequency) display. Audio is read only to compute live visual levels. It is never recorded, stored, or transmitted. |
MODIFY_AUDIO_SETTINGS |
To apply equalizer, compression, and limiter effects to system audio output. |
FOREGROUND_SERVICE / FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PLAYBACK |
To keep audio processing active while music plays in the background, with a persistent notification. |
POST_NOTIFICATIONS |
To show the ongoing status notification (EQ on/off, active preset). |
BLUETOOTH_CONNECT |
To identify the connected audio output device so the app can auto-apply your saved per-device preset. Device names are used only on-device and are never uploaded. |
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED |
To optionally restore your equalizer settings after the device restarts. |
Data Storage
All settings — presets, per-device bindings, and preferences — are stored locally on your device only, using Android's standard local storage. Uninstalling the app removes this data.
Children's Privacy
Tonebox does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children under 13.
